The United Kingdom is one of the largest tourist destinations in the world. Recently, England, Wales, and Scotland made international travel once again. As a result, people are welcome to visit these locations, particularly since the lockdown has largely been removed. Initially, a traffic light system, featuring green list countries, was introduced. At the same time, many people are wondering how they should navigate international travel right now, and what it means when countries are on the green list.
Even though the traffic light system controlled international travel involving the United Kingdom for a long time, that is no longer the case. There were green list countries that people could travel to and from, but the traffic light system has since been removed. A lot of people down the system confusing, and the United Kingdom decided to make travel easier moving forward. Therefore, it is critical for everyone to understand exactly how international travel works to and from the countries in the United Kingdom.
Instead of having a green list and an amber list, the United Kingdom has scrapped the traffic light system. Now, there is a simple red list and non-red list system. According to the Transportation Secretary of the United Kingdom, the goal is to simplify measures for the rest of the world. That way, people are free to travel once again while still striking the right balance for public health.
In addition, all travel rules involving the United Kingdom have been removed. This means that people do not have to worry about testing, quarantining, or filling out passenger locator forms when they travel to and from the United Kingdom. At the same time, it is critical for people to think about other destinations they might pass through along the way. They might still have travel rules in place, and everyone must plan carefully.
From time to time, the United Kingdom might add countries to the red list. What this means is that travel to and from these locations is under increased scrutiny, and people may not be allowed to travel to or from them at all. If a country is placed on the red list, it generally means that people coming from those locations are required to self-isolate in a government-approved hotel for 10 days before they are released.
Fortunately, right now, there are no countries on the list. The last countries to be removed from the red list in the United Kingdom were Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Because these countries are no longer on the list, people should not have to worry about traveling to or from the United Kingdom right now. At the same time, as the temperature gets colder outside, it is possible that the virus count may go up, and the red list could return in the future.
