In these cases, the loss threshold is often calculated using a Total Loss Formula (TLF), which used the following formula: Cost of Repair + Salvage Value > Actual Cash Value. If the cost of repair plus the salvage value is greater than the ACV, the vehicle can be declared a total loss.
