States Without Ticks 2024

States Without Ticks 2024

States Without Ticks 2024

  • Ticks exist in every state in the US, though they are less common and diverse in the northern states and cooler climates.
  • Data focus upon ticks that can transmit diseases to humans. Tick species that do not transmit diseases to humans are excluded.
  • Alaska is the only US state with zero native tick species that can carry disease to humans (though it does have at least one native species, Ixodes angustus, which is common on hares and squirrels). However, several species can survive and even overwinter there if introduced on animals (typically dogs) from out of state.
