State Budgets by State 2024

  • All values displayed in millions USD
  • Unlike the calendar year, fiscal years rarely begin in January and end in December.
  • Budgets progress in stages. First is the Enacted budget, which is the budget as it was planned. This is followed by Preliminary Actual totals, which represent the expected, but not yet confirmed totals for the current year. Finally, the Actual budget is the confirmed final version of the budget, which typically becomes available 1-2 years after the end of the fiscal year to which the budget applied.
  • 2024 budget values shown pertain to the Enacted version of the State General Fund for Fiscal 2024.
  • Total Resources are the sum of the Beginning Budget, Revenues, and Resource Adjustments.
  • Ending Balance is the sum of Total Resources minus Expenditures and Expenditure Adjustments. It may or may not include the Rainy Day Fund Balance.
