Irish Population by State 2024
Irish Americans have a notable presence in the northeastern states, with New Hampshire leading the way at 20.05% of its population being of Irish descent. Massachusetts (19.29%), Rhode Island (17.05%), Vermont (16.13%), and Maine (15.95%) also have high percentages of Irish Americans. Pennsylvania, located slightly further south, also has a significant Irish American population, with 15.25% of residents identifying as such.
Moving westward, Ohio (12.64%), Missouri (12.12%), Indiana (10.23%), Michigan (10.04%), and Wisconsin (10.40%) all have sizable Irish American populations, though their percentages are lower than those in the northeast. Meanwhile, California (5.96%) and Texas (5.69%) have the largest Irish American populations in sheer numbers, despite having smaller percentages overall. It is worth noting that Hawaii has the smallest percentage of Irish Americans at just 4.42%.
