Irving is a city located in Dallas County Texas. Irving has a 2024 population of 253,561. Irving is currently declining at a rate of -0.32% annually and its population has decreased by -1.26% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 256,807 in 2020.

Irving is a city in Texas, U.S., located to the northwest of Dallas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Irving is located in Dallas County in northeast Texas.
According to the 2010 census, Irving was 53.1% white (30.8% non-Hispanic whites), 12.3% African American, 14.0% Asian, 0.9% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 16.2% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race comprised 41.1% of the population, with the largest group being of Mexican origin and the second-largest being of Salvadoran heritage.

Although Irving experienced slow population growth during its first couple of decades as a city, between 1950 and 1960, the population grew 1,654.5% from 2,621 people to 45,985 people. Irving has experienced steady growth since then, with a current population of over 240,000 people.
The population of Irving grew 1.57% from 2016 to 2017 and is expected to grow at or around that rate in the coming years.
The townsite that is now Irving was founded in 1903 by J.O. “Otto” Schulze and Otis Brown. The name “Irving” is believed to have come from Brown’s wife’s favorite author, Washington Irving. On April 14, 1914, Irving was incorporated and Otis Brown became the first mayor.
Population growth in Riving was initially very slow and sometimes at a standstill. There were only 357 residents in 1925; however, growth increased during the 1930s. By the early 1960s, Irving has a population of approximately 45,000.
Irving started as the site of churches, two cotton gins, a general store, and a blacksmith shop before becoming Irving. Its public school system began in 1909. During the middle of the century, manufacturing plants, transportation, and retail and financial businesses began operating. In 1956, the University of Dallas in Irving opened and the home of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Stadium, was opened in 1971.
In 2019, Irving completed its construction of an entertainment district in Las Colinas, which include the Westin Irving Convention Center Hotel, the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, and the Toyota Music Factory.
