The World Wide Web Foundation's Web Index measures Internet growth, utility, and impact across 86 countries using four pillars: universal access, freedom and openness, empowerment, and relevant content. At the top of the Web Index is Denmark with a perfect score of 100. As a highly digitized economy in the European Union, Denmark is renowned for software development, with notable inventions like Skype, Google Maps, and Lego bricks.
Finland follows closely with a Web Index score of 98.81, though it ranks 13th in Network Readiness at 68.53. Norway, with a score of 97.32, places third, leading in internet privacy and boasting high internet usage rates and broadband speeds. The United Kingdom is fourth with a score of 95.67, while Sweden, emphasizing Internet freedom and empowerment, ranks fifth with a score of 94.97.
The United States, with a score of 94.52, is sixth on the Web Index and third on the Inclusive Internet Index. In seventh place, Iceland scores 93.72 and is recognized as the best environment for internet freedom. South Korea, in eighth place with a score of 92.81, is also second on the Inclusive Internet Index. The Netherlands, ranking ninth with a score of 91.84, also holds the eighth position in the Inclusive Internet Index. Belgium rounds out the top ten with a Web Index score of 89.61 and stands 22nd in Network Readiness.
