When people think about maple syrup, they usually think about Canada. Of course, it should come as no surprise that Canada is the top producer of maple syrup in the world. Even though the United States also produces a fair amount of maple syrup, along with a handful of other countries, Canada is far and away the biggest exporter of maple syrup in the world. It is one of the most important industries in the maple leaf country, and Canada even has a strategic reserve of maple syrup that it can release if there are hard times either in Canada or elsewhere in the world.

Even though it is true that Canada is synonymous with maple syrup, there is actually one city that is responsible for producing the vast majority of maple syrup. Quebec, located in Canada, produces close to eight million gallons of maple syrup every year. It is one of the biggest industries in Quebec, and it is a part of its culture. Even though the industry has had some hard times during the past few years, it remains a cornerstone of life in Quebec itself.
There are a few other cities in Canada that also produce a fair amount of maple syrup. For example, Ontario produces approximately 400,000 gallons of maple syrup every year. It is the third most productive city in terms of maple syrup.
The United States also produces a lot of maple syrup every year. In particular, Vermont produces a tremendous amount of maple syrup. It is the second most productive area in the world in terms of gallons of maple syrup produced annually. Vermont produces close to 900,000 gallons of maple syrup every year. Even though it falls far short of Quebec, it is still closely tied to the maple syrup industry.
New York also produces a lot of maple syrup. Even though there is not a lot of maple syrup produced in New York City, Upstate New York is responsible for producing a tremendous amount of maple syrup. It produces approximately 312,000 gallons of maple syrup every year, making it a major exporter.
It may come as a surprise to hear that there are no other places on Earth where maple syrup is produced. North America is the only location that produces maple syrup. For example, Europe does not have the right weather conditions for producing maple syrup. There are specific weather conditions that have to be met in order for sap to be produced from trees. If sap is not produced, there can be no maple syrup. Because there is a lot of sap in North America, maple syrup can be made efficiently. The weather conditions are not right in other areas of the world, so maple syrup cannot be made there.
