Gmail got its start back in 2004 and has quickly become one of the most popular free email providers on the internet. It was the first service provider to introduce the concept of threaded email conversations, and initially offered 1 GB of storage, which was huge at the time. Today, Gmail is used by countries around the world. In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the countries that use Gmail on a regular basis and see how many people from various countries utilize the service.

Mexico, with 42.6% of its residents using Gmail, and the United States with 41.9% are just barely edged out of the top ten. Several other countries currently see between 35% and 40% of their citizens using Gmail, including the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Australia, and Canada.
Just as Gmail is popular in many countries, there are some countries where it is not the email service provider of choice. The lowest country on the list, Germany, for example, only has 20.8% of its residents who use Gmail. 22.7% of those living in Russia use the service provider and 25.5% of those living in Switzerland have Gmail accounts.
Both Belgium and the United Kingdom have slightly more than 30% of their residents who use Gmail, and Sweden and Japan have just slightly more than 33% of their own population who use the service provider.
There are also some areas of the world where Gmail is used very little. For example, on the entire continent of Africa, South Africa is the only country that has a significant number of Gmail users. The rest of the continent doesn't have much of a Gmail account base if any at all. Eastern Europe and much of Asia as well as Greenland also have little to no Gmail account users.
