Potash Production by Country 2024

The global production of potash, an essential component in fertilizers, is estimated at 71.9 million metric tons annually. This production is distributed among several key countries, each contributing significantly to the global supply.

Canada leads in potash production, generating 16 million metric tons annually. The country's production is on an upward trajectory, with Saskatchewan-based Nutrien standing as the world's largest potash company. Following Canada, China ranks as the second-largest producer, contributing 6 million metric tons. In addition to its production, China is also the largest consumer of potash.

Russia, with its 5 million metric tons annual production, is another major player in the potash market. Uralkali is Russia's largest potash company. However, the country faced limitations in its potash export due to sanctions in 2023.

Belarus produces 3 million metric tons of potash each year, with Belaruskali leading the production. This company operates six mines and four processing factories. As the fifth-largest producer, Germany yields 2.8 million metric tons of potash annually, with significant operations across six mines in three districts.

Israel's production remains steady at 2.5 million metric tons annually, making Israel Chemicals the sixth-largest potash producer globally. Jordan, producing 1.7 million metric tons a year, is the sole potash producer in the Arab region, with the Arab Potash Company being the largest in Jordan and the seventh-largest by volume worldwide.

Chile contributes 850,000 metric tons of potash each year. Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile not only produces the most potash in Chile but also leads in global lithium production. In Laos, Asia-Potash International Investment stands as the largest producer, contributing 600,000 metric tons to the total.

Spain, rounding out the top ten, produces 450,000 metric tons of potash annually and holds a reserve of 68 million metric tons. This global overview highlights the significant role of these countries in the potash industry, which is crucial for agricultural productivity worldwide.
