Located in North America, Mexico is a country situated beneath the United States of America. Known as Estados Unidos Mexicanos in Spanish, Mexico shares borders with six other areas, four of which are land regions and two of which are bodies of water. With the U.S. in the north, Mexico shares its southeastern borders with Belize, Guatemala, and the Caribbean Sea. The Gulf of Mexico is in the east, and the Pacific Oceans lies to both the west and the south of Mexico.
The North American country of Mexico has a latitude of 23.6345° N, and longitude of 102.5528° W. These points place Mexico in the northern and western hemispheres, respectively. Likewise, Mexico lies to the north of the equator.
In the north, Mexico's furthest point is in Monumento 206. This point is in the city of Los Algodones of the Mexicali Municipality. In particular, the northernmost point of Mexico is part of Baja California. The latitude of Mexico's northernmost point is 32°43' N.
The southernmost point of Mexico has a latitude of 14°32' N. It is positioned along the border that Mexico shares with the Central American country of Guatemala. This point is on the Suchiate River, known as the Río Suchiate in Spanish. More specifically, the most extreme point of Mexico in the south is in the Mexican state of Chiapas.
The easternmost point of the country is found on the Isla Mujeres. This island is located in the Gulf of Mexico. As part of Mexico's Isla Mujeres Municipality, this point is considered to be part of the peninsula of Yucatán. With a longitude of 86°42'36" W, Mexico's easternmost point is part of the Free and Sovereign State of Quintana Roo.
To the west, Mexico has two points of extremity. On the mainland of Mexico, the westernmost point of Mexico is in Baja California, near the city of Tijuana. This point has a longitudinal coordinate of 117°02' W. When it comes to extremities beyond Mexico's mainland, Guadalupe Island is home to Mexico's westernmost point. Situated along the Pacific Ocean, this point is located in Roca Elefante.
Mexico is comprised of a total of 758,449 square miles. The total area of Mexico is the thirteenth largest natural area of all countries in the world. Mexico’s population as of 2019 is approximately 131,563,359 people. This number equates to 1.72% of the global population. Mexico is the 10th largest countries of all 196 countries around the world.
Mexico is a country that is called the United Mexican States by many, due to how it is divided that is the result of a long history that includes revolutions and war. It is the tenth most populated country in the world with a population of over 130 million and it is ranked thirteen in the world for land size.
The history of Mexico is said to trace back as far as 8,000 B.C. where it was considered one of the founding arcs of civilization. The Maya and the Aztecs started a history here, and by 1521 A.D. the Spanish Empire was colonizing the region into a land called New Spain. Upon the discovery of precious metals in Mexico, the life of Mexican trade and Mexico became recognized as a key player in the world economy with its ideal location along the Gulf of Mexico and ocean borders.
Mexico as a country has always been recognized, but it didn’t get the respect of a true country until after the Mexican-American War. Between 1835 and 1836, the Texas Revolution resulted in significant land loss by America to Mexico and Mexico’s constitution became established in 1857.
The location of Mexico has established it as a natural trade route for every kind of transportation available today.
